The Oberoi Udaivilas spa hotel is actually located at 4 km only from Udaipur city centre. This fascinating and impressive city set up on the edges of 3 lakes is called « the city of the rising sun ». It was built in 1567 by one of the oldest dynasty in the world: the Sisodia family. Udaipur boasts numerous treasures, among which palaces, lakes, temples, forts, gardens and havelis (small hotels) recall the past centuries.
During your spa travel to India, a visit to the City Palace is a must! Located at only 25 minutes from your luxury hotel, this huge palace is built on a hill, overlooking the Pichola Lake. It was built in 1567 and is surrounded by crenated walls. It includes 4 main palaces and several small ones which constitute only one facade. The door, designed in 1725, comprises of 3 arches named as Tripolia. It leads to a series of corridors, courtyards and hanging gardens. Please note that a complete visit of this magnificent site may take some three hours. You will discover the Zenana Mahal (the Queens' palace), the Khush Mahal (the joyful palace) and the Mor Chowk (the 17th century peacock courtyard) amongst others.
Another attraction is the Crystal Gallery located some 25 minutes only from the Oberoi Udaivilas. You will discover a rare crystal collection designed by Follette Osler and especially ordered by the Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1877. It includes crystal lustres and crystal-made furniture such as chairs, vanities (dressing tables) and a bed.
For your spa holidays in India, you might also pay a visit to the Sajjan Garh, known as the Monsoon Palace. Built in the end of the 19th century by the Maharana Sajjan Singh as an observatory, it was also used as a Royal hunting ground thanks to its location nearby woody hills. Located on a hill and overlooking the Pichola Lake and the city, this palace offers spectacular views over lakes, water courses and the Aravalis mounts. Please note that the hill that leads to Sarjan Garh is a natural reserve. The Monsoon Palace is located at some 25 minutes from the Oberoi Udaivilas Hotel.
At some 25 minutes also from the hotel, you will discover the Jagdish Temple. The State of Rajasthan known for its monuments and architecture welcomes you to this traditional temple dedicated to God Vishnu. Built in 1651 by the Maharana Jagat Singh I, it features an imposing pagoda of 24 metres high decorated with dancers, musicians, elephants and knights making it one of the most beautiful temple of the city. Visitors are requested to remove their shoes before entering the temple.
The Pichola Lake located next to your hotel will be the perfect place for a boat tour. This famous Udaipur lake is surrounded by hills, palaces, ghats (stairs leading to ritual baths), temples and seawalls.
The Fateh Sagar Lake located some 10 minutes only from your spa resort is also worth a visit during your holidays in India. This lake is almost surrounded by hills, the remaining part being occupied by a dam. You might even make a boat tour to the Nehru Parc, a garden set up on one of the islands.
